Self-acceptance

Mind | Body | Soul

Total self-acceptance is a challenging goal for most. Here are a few ideas that might help us! Everyone has a different path in shaping our personal self-esteem, self-worth and how we accept ourselves. Pressures and insecurities stemming from a myriad of reasons such as upbringing, trauma, mental health and so on, will undoubtedly contribute to finding it hard to even like oneself. Escapism from everyday life, such as using distractions like work, exercise, alcohol or drugs is a common and usually unsuccessful solution. Learn to accept ‘what is’. This does not mean to avoid self-development or self-improvement which are important factors in achieving self-acceptance. Do learn to accept and let go of any disappointment, sadness, remorse and then move on. Understand your limitations, and your vices and virtues. Stop comparing yourself with others, rather praise your abilities and try to switch any negative thoughts and feelings. Always be honest and compassionate - to yourself and to others. Put yourself in situations, and surround yourself with people, that uplift you. Let go of anything or anyone that repeatedly bring you down. Smile!.. it can improve mood, reduce stress, increase confidence, and be addictive!
